In Yuanyang, one can find water sources at the highest point of the mountain, and terrace paddies also stretch there. Therefore, it presents a view that ‘the layers of terrace paddies are like a ladder to the heaven’. The terrace stretches all over the mountains to the farthest place beyond your eyesight; the paddies pile up layer by layer from the bottom to the top of the mountains, and the paddies on one mountain can amount to over 3,000 layers.

Terrace is described as an art carved on the earth and Hani people is an ethnic group carving the earth. Hani people believe in nature, feel indebted and obedient to nature and they also treat nature well. Tens of generations of Hani people excavated hundreds of irrigation canals which are magical lifeblood of Hani people.More pics
