Basiclly speaking, there are 2 ways to renting a house: 1. looking for the informations through the internet,such as 58 (www.58.com)or ganji(www.ganji.com), but only chinese availiable; 2.through the real estate agency.
By agency, they are going to charge you the service fee only one time. Usually, it is one month rent, for instance, if your rent is 1000Yuan per month, the service fee would be 1000Yuan.

The rent of one-room flat in down-town district is around 1500 Yuan per month, up-town area is around 1000-1200;
The rent of double-room flat in down-town district is around 2000 Yuan per month,up-town area is around 1200-1400;
However, it also depends on the situation of the room. Such as wether it is well decorated ,wether the utensils supplied, or the furnitures available.

Agency better, they're professional and they have lots of resouces.
